BDS Service Providers

General

The success of the EMPRETEC model (referenced above) depends so much on post-training support that is provided to the entrepreneurs (Empretecos). The development of entrepreneurship in Empretecos results from a programmed package of a mix of entrepreneurial and management skills training and a coordinated delivery of customized business advisory services. It is therefore imperative that a core of Business Advisors are trained and within geographical reach of the Empretecos to provide business advice and mentorship to clients.
The Business Advisor training program lasts Ten days and includes topics like business diagnostic and health checks, business profiling, guide to business planning and review, business counselling, sub-contracting opportunities, financial analysis and management, etc. Experienced international consultants and Business Advisors with relevant experience in many African EMPRETEC Centres will undertake and supervise the training of the Business Advisors to deepen their understanding, knowledge and skills (More information about the training of BDS Advisors is detailed in the BDS Department Training Manual).
Once trained, the BDS Advisors would be issued a contract (See Annex 1 for sample BDS Contract), letter of assignment, and the GIEPA Code of Conduct. Once all relevant documents are signed, biographical information on the Business Advisor will be collected. This information includes location, educational background, and area of expertise of the Advisor. Based on this information, and the needs of the client, a Business Advisor will be assigned to a client. Each Business Advisor will be assigned to a maximum 10 clients and use the reporting tools provided by the BDS Manager to provide monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and project end reports which indicates progress made by the Advisor and the progress made by the client such as number of jobs created, turnover etc.
